But one man who has recently claimed to be Spears' lawyer, Jon Eardley, says that the pop star is being "deprived of her Constitutional rights," according to People.com. Eardley went on to tell People that he is "seeking a return to normalcy for Spears."
In order to achieve this return to normalcy, Eardley has filed a complaint in U.S. District Court on behalf of Spears. He has stated that the the conservatorship is a "violation of her civil rights." Acting on this statement, Eardley has asked that the case be moved from California state court to a federal court to be reviewed.
Eardley went on to tell People that the conservatorship is, "an issue of confinement."
But is Eardley just chasing fame for a hopeless client?
Apparently not.
Eardley told People that he hasn't met the star yet, but rather, "she reached out by phone, I have no idea how she got my number."
Eardley, a lawyer who practices in New York, Washington D.C. and California, says that he does not usually represent celebrity clients.
Eardley has even hired spokesperson Michael Sands who has past experience working with the likes of Kevin Federline's lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan.
Does Eardley believe that Spears' erratic behavior is dangerous?
According to People Eardley doesn't believe so.
He went so far as to say that he "sees far worse cases on the streets."
I, for one, have a hard time agreeing with this statement. The star's recent blatant disregard for the rules of the real world signal that something is genuinely wrong. Furthermore, the people who live on the streets that Eardley refers to as "far worse cases" are a completely different story. The people who are on the streets and are not institutionalized rarely have children or millions of dollars factored into the equation.
Also, these street people hardly have the support network or the resources to get the help that they need. It seems that Spears' father, Jamie, is trying to help rather than harm her.
