Who is Lauren Conrad? You might know her better as "LC," a high-school senior who began her reality show career on MTV's Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County. She then appeared on her own show, The Hills, which furthered her career. Due to the popularity of the show, Lauren has been featured on several TV shows, has become a spokesperson for the Avon line Mark, and has most recently become a best-selling author of the book LA Candy. Now, she's focusing primarily on her fashion line.
Her revamped line is called LC: Lauren Conrad, and includes shirts, jeans, leggings, and dresses. The line caters to the Kohl's target population, which includes juniors and women. However, can this LA fashionista channel what the average woman wants?
I reviewed the collection and was pleasantly surprised by what I found. I am a Kohl's shopper, and expected to see colors that were too bright, shirts that were cut too low, and pants that were too tight. I was happy to see a collection that included clothing that I felt I could realistically wear, both to work and during the weekend.
The collection includes dresses that are better suited for warmer months, as they include sleeveless, spaghetti-straps, and strapless styles of dresses. The colors are muted, and include the classic black dress, a colorful babydoll style, and my favorite, the paint grey brushstroke sheath dress. The current prices listed on the Kohl's website range from $36.99-$46.99, which is feasible in today's economic environment. Sizes range from small to extra-large.
The jeans in the collection only include two styles: skinny jeans and boyfriend jeans. Sizes range from 2-16. There are two colors available, indigo wash-dark and medium. This is really the only part of the collection that I wouldn't purchase, as the boyfriend jeans are cuffed and have "distressed details," which include a worn look and small rips throughout each leg. The skinny jeans are just that-skinny, and are a bit too tight for my taste. The prices are comparable to other popular jean brands, as they are currently listed on sale at $39.99.
The collection also includes black leggings, which are available for $14.99 on the Kohl's website. The only size currently available is extra-large.
The shirts in the collection give the customer a wider range of styles to choose from, as they include camisoles, striped t-shirts, and sweaters. The dominant color is a pleasant shade of blue, and would likely be flattering to most women. Some sleeves are bell-shaped and gathered, which is a unique type of style to try.
My favorite top is called the dolman top, which has a ¾ length sleeve, and a scoop-neck style. This would be work appropriate, and would also look nice with a pair of dark jeans. The colors for this style include black, light grey, and purple. The striped tees may not be flattering for some women, however, because the cut at the waist is a bit too loose. Sizes for the collection range from extra-small to extra-large. The current prices listed range from $13.99-$32.99.
I admit, I was skeptical when first reviewing this collection. I thought the clothes would be unwearable and unrealistic for many, but I was happy to see the range of styles, colors, and prices of the pieces. This is a collection that is ready-to-wear, and that the Kohl's target population will likely enjoy. The tops and dresses are feminine and can give the everyday woman a few flirty pieces to add to their closet.
