LDS Temple Christmas Lights

a Free Christmas Celebration from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

Christmas light exhibitions have always been one of the staples for a fun and memorable Christmas. Even the scroogiest of scrooges can find it in their heart to throw up a string of lights across the garage door.

Many organizations also take the time to bring some shiny holiday cheer to the neighborhood. None have been more consistent or enjoyable than the LDS Temple Christmas lights displays at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saint temples across the world.

Not only are visitors free to walk around the temple grounds they can sit and enjoy nightly musical presentations. During the month of December church choirs from all faiths, high school choirs and families perform among the countless twinkling lights.

The Mesa, Arizona Temple, for example, is illuminated with over 750,000 lights; including larger-than-life-sized wise men, a finely crafted, life-size nativity scene and an exhibition of nativities from across the globe.

Performances will happen on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and could be anything from Island dancers to Canterbury bells or a local Methodist choir.

The birth of Jesus Christ is the absolute center of the festivities. Performances will begin and end with a prayer. LDS missionaries will be available to answer any questions, and regularly have a free DVD available of the story of Christ's birth.

Expect to encounter many families as the temple grounds become busy each night of the Christmas season. Performances typically begin at 7 pm and the temple grounds are open until 10 pm. Parking is free and easily accessible. Seating is first come first serve so plan to arrive half an hour early for the best seats.

Local newspapers, LDS buildings or church members in your area will have a pamphlet with the dates and performers. The church web site at www.lds.org will also have any information you may need.
