Le Art of Procrastination, or the Art of Procrastination

Today I'd like to focus on (say it slowly)...Le Art of Procrastination or The Art of Procrastination

According to Merriam-Webster dictionary procrastination (pro• cras• ti• nate) means to put off intentionally or habitually, or to put off intentionally the doing of something that should be done.

Why call my article Le Art of Procrastination? Because it has a nicer ring to it than just plain old procrastination that's why! Doesn't the art of anything sound kind of French. Well at least to me it does! Think about it for a second. What if you add The Art of.....to Working, or how about.....Walking the Dog or even still ...taking out the garbage? Get my drift. Everything sounds better with The Art of, even if it's ordinary and mundane. It gives it a nice twist! Now what if I took it a step further and replaced the The and made it a Le, even better still....and very Frenchy I might add!

As far as I'm concerned, anything that is even remotely connected with something French is infinitely more interesting and exiting... and a direction I definitely want your mind to go to! Kind of naughty, but kind of nice too. Take for instance toast, would you rather have just plain toast or french toast? Would you rather have just plain soup or French Onion soup? Fries or french fries? What sounds more enticing a kiss or a french kiss. Can you see where I'm going with this?

Now think of it another way, if I just wrote about the ordinary topic of Procrastination, I would probably approach it from a much different point of view. Like why we procrastinate and how to overcome it, ways to avoid it, what is the meaning behind it, etc.etc. I'd also have to do tons of research, quote some famous doctor, piece together bits of information from websites, sift through pages of mostly filler at the library before getting some useful information. Even then I think I'd be too overloaded with facts to even know where to begin to write! So instead of going through all that torture I'd rather come up with a french...I mean a fresh approach to the topic of Procrastination. Something that has an air of mystery to it, something that's never done before, something like Le Art of Procrastination.

I'm really starting to like the way this idea is shaping up. Now I need to start putting something down on paper before I lose my thoughts... but not until I run to the store and get a few things. So I'm going to have to put this off for a little while longer. Get it, put it off....?? A little humor there folks. Okay, sorry about that poor attempt at humor, now back to my thoughts. This notion of putting The Art of before Procrastination... has now changed from a The to a Le has definitely taken on a whole new meaning. It sounds interesting, it's something I could easily write about without putting too much time and effort into it. It's something I want to embrace. For me the real question is why avoid something when you can embrace it instead? Makes sense to me. So let's hear it for embracing Le Art of Procrastination!!!

Final thoughts on the matter. What if I were to take this a step further and do some real research on Le Art of Procrastination , like someone writing a book would do? Kind of like blow your socks off kind of research. It's only natural I'd have to jet on over to France wouldn't I? Great idea. That's what a real writer would do. Who's to say I'm not a real writer? I get paid don't I ? Okay maybe not that much.... However, if I was just writing about plain old vanilla Procrastination I wouldn't have to. I could just stay at home in my pajamas and do my research here. I wouldn't have to worry about this french or this art business! But unfortunately I chose Le Art of Procrastination as my topic, so I'll just have to resign myself to going to France. Sigh. Anything for the sake of my art.

Once I get to France I can just imagine what it'll be like. I'm on the French Riviera....discussing Proust, Monet and of course Le Art of Procrastination while downing a casual aperitif or two all the while sitting on a chaise lounge in my black beret and tights tilting my head back ever so slightly. Oh if only I could speak French! Or perhaps sipping on an espresso while eating a croissant with Pierre at some smoky cafe in the Village. I could go on and on...

Hmmm....now if only I could think of something to write about...

Now that's the real joie de vivre (joy of living) of Le Art of Procrastination!
