Kevin Markinson is not your traditional husband and father, but then again, the Markinson's are not your typical family! Kevin, former Marine, has been in trouble with the law for most of his life. While in the Marines he was trained as a sniper. Faced with a wife and two kids to support Kevin uses his one marketable skill and ties to the mob and spends the better part of the next twenty-five years as a "hit man." However recently, firmly entrenched in middle-age and at his wife's request, Kevin has decided that it's time to retire and settle down with the family he loves, but barely knows.
Seymour delves deep into the psyche of her main characters revealing their innermost feelings, strengths, and weaknesses; allowing the reader to become intimately familiar with this deeply troubled family. She compares the seemingly and somewhat mundane life Kevin is living now, with that of the life he formerly led. But even in the quiet surroundings of the small New Hampshire town, trouble continues to follow Kevin wherever he goes.
