Let's review some award-winning designs among 2010 models.
Consumer Reports chose the Prius as its top pick in the green car category, as did Kelley Blue Book. Considered one of the most fuel efficient vehicles by Consumer Report's ratings, it features a roomy interior, is reliable, and has great crash test ratings. Sells for $23,150 to $26,950, making it very affordable.
Chevy Volt
Looking at last year's ideas, the Chevy Volt won acclaim by receiving the 2009 Green Car Vision Award at the Washington Auto Show from Green Car Journal. This was in advance of this year's launch, demonstrating the potential for the Volt, an electric-powered vehicle with a zero emissions battery, fuel efficient, and capable of extended drives thanks to an engine-generator. According to Christian Science Monitor, the Volt will sell for $41,000, though leasing is much more affordable, around $350 a month, the same as the Nissan Leaf.
Nissan Leaf
The 2010 Green Car Vision Award winner from Green Car Journal was the Nissan Leaf, a stylish, battery electric vehicle. More affordable than the Volt, it is also capable of zero emissions and requires no petroleum fuels. The Leaf's lithium batteries are leased to buyers during the vehicle transaction, allowing combined monthly payments and an overall cost that, when compared to standard fuel vehicles, is comparable. It will retail at $33,000
Ford Fusion Hybrid
Mother Earth News chose the five-passenger Ford Fusion Hybrid sedan as being the top among a list of top 10 green cars. Consumer Reports chosen the Ford Fusion Hybrid for its American Top Picks: Green Car Category, and it won the Motor Trend Car of the Year. Coming in at 34 mpg in Consumer Report testing, they referred to the vehicle as "enjoyable to drive." Mother Earth News notes it is capable of running up to 47 mpg just on electric power. Prices range from $28,675 to $32,620.
Audi A3 TDI - 2010 Award
Green Car Journal chose the Audi A3 TDI for its Green Car of the Year, a stylish, clean diesel-fueled small station wagon (it looks more like a hatchback though), capable of up to 42 mpg highway. Base price for this model is $29,950.

Post a CommentSanity check: Sir, you have become engrossed in an effort to evaluate vehicles that offer a safety rating below the industry average, a passenger comfort level below the industry average and performance levels that are below the industry average with the motivation of getting higher MPG from a finite fuel source that may no longer be sold in the US within the next 6-8 years.
Please consider writing the words, "Mineral Hogs" in large letters on the windshields and return them to the manufacturers.
We are waiting with anticipation for the day they replace all the hybrid hardware with B100 compatible advanced diesel engines that will use no petroleum sourced fule and achieve 75mpbg (Miles Per Biodiesel Gallon) off the assembly line offering considerably better safety, performance and lower emissions - powered with a totally sustainable, environmentally friendly, zero carbon life cycle fuel.
