Graphics are surprisingly retro. Players use a 2D sprite representing their hero and jump, leap, climb over all sorts f traps and enemies. Delivering a well-placed pixel kick to the mad enemies feels great, especially as it is essentially the end game goal for each level. Basically, you can expect the following: Get around traps without getting killed, avoid or kill enemy soldiers, grab intel suitcase for additional points, and finally find mad scientist-take him out! This may sound a little repetitive, but the levels are short and sweet, with points for the faster you beat each one (usually expected to be done in less than a minute, that is how fast these levels go!). For some levels, players must beat it in 9 seconds or less to get the top award (full star). It sounds insane, but if played correctly, (grab some fast-paced chiptech music), it is totally doable. I'm really terrible at 2D speed side scrollers, but I somehow have been able to get the hang of League of Evil with minimal rage and iPod throwing across the room!
I found the controls fairly responsive on my iPod touch. Basically, controls consist of left and right arrows on the left side of the screen, and a A and B buttons on the right side. That's it, nothing else. While I would prefer actual buttons (think: Gameboy or Nintendo DS) to the lack of tactile feedback on a touch screen, these touch buttons got the job. Every once in a while, I'll miss an easy jump and blame it on the controls, but overall they work fine.
Produced by WobblyWare and Ravenous games, League of Evil is a fantastic game for the iPod Touch iPhone or iPad. It's a really a gem in the midst of thousands of crummy time wasters and deserve special recognition for its gameplay, graphics and delightful entertainment. Check it out on Apple iTunes today!
