Lean Cuisine Tortilla Crusted Fish - Frozen Meal Review

With Rice, Poblano Peppers & Corn in a Sour Cream Sauce

I enjoy the taste and texture of fried fish. Unfortunately i don't cook fried fish. i don't even make fried chicken or french fries unless they're 'oven fried.' It's not that I'm extremely health conscious, or that i don't want the lingering scent in my house, it's more that I was always afraid of frying so I just never bothered with it. I have memories of growing up and hanging out in some relatives kitchen where they'd be frying fish or chicken and grease would be popping and flying everywhere. I'd see them come to the dinner table with burns and blisters on their arms caused by the popping grease. I decided if I wanted it bad enough I'd get fast food. The problem with that is that fast food didn't always foot the bill for what I had in mind. And lets face it, oven fried anything just isn't the same.

On a recent trip to my local Giant Foods grocery store I found that Lean Cuisine were on sale again, 5 for $10. I decided to pick up a few to take to work for lunch. I noticed they had some newer varieties I hadn't seen before. Standing out among them I found a row of Lean Cuisine's Tortilla Crusted Fish. The fish was looking pretty good on the box cover and i was in the mood for fish anyhow. I grabbed a couple of boxes of the Lean CuisineTortilla Crusted Fish and rice. Oh, and did I mention the fish came accompanied by white rice with poblano peppers and corn in a sour cream sauce. And this meal truly fit the bill for a fish meal!

I'll start with describing the rice, which a little less impressive. I liked the taste and texture of the rice, even though I couldn't really detect any sour cream. Not tasting sour cream was no big deal because the rice was still very tasty. The only thing I didn't like about the rice was that some of the poblano peppers got very hard and shriveled when cooked. When eating the rice you'd occasionally hit a hard spot that was shocking to bite down on when you weren't expecting it!

Now for the good part. The fish, which I didn't worry about finding out what kind it was until AFTER I'd eaten and loved the meal! I assumed it would be Tilapia, which seems to be used for everything seafood related these days. Turns out this fish was actually Alaskan Pollock.

After microwaving for the Lean Cuisine meal for the suggested 3 minutes and 30 seconds, the tortilla crust was firm and indeed crusty and not at all soft or soggy. I supposed tortillas' made for this accomplishment. Inside the crust the fish was moist, tender, and flaky. AND it tasted like fish! I was truly impressed with this Lean Cuisine Tortilla Crusted Fish meal and so happy that I'd picked up more than one box! I will definitely be buying more of these, I really felt like I was treating myself and it truly was satisfying and took care of my craving for fried fish! Yum!

Wow. You make this sound so tasty that I may just have to pick one up at Giant and try it! I'm not a big fan of the fish selection from frozen food varieties, as I like my seafood cooked on the spot like they way they do it at family reunions and such, so I prefer the other Lean Cuisine dishes but, there's a first time for everything! Good review!
