Learn to Choose the Right Dog

Companionship. Most people crave it. The dog. Man's best friend has been the greatest ally of humans since the cave dwellers tamed the wild dog. Bring the two together and what do you have? A happier life, for you and the dog. There are many benefits to owning a dog. Below, I will discuss how you can choose the best dog for your lifestyle.

Choose a breed

It is very important that you do your research before you select your a dog. You'll need to research each breed you're interested in. Learn not only the physical characteristics of each breed, but also each breed's personality traits as well. Like human's, each dog breed is unique and special, and each dog deserves to have an owner that will love and cherish it. The worst thing you could do is get a dog that doesn't fit into your lifestyle. If you are a person who travels a lot or is away on business quite often, you might not want to get a Bulldog. They require a lot of attention.

Choose a breeder

Now that you have selected a breed, it is time to select a breeder. Do a lot of research. The last thing you want to do is buy a puppy from a puppy mill( a place where puppies are bred in very close quarters, in bad conditions, any there may be 100-1000 puppies there at the same time). Ask the breeder to see where the puppy is kept. Make sure the puppy is kept in a clean environment. You might also want to see if the breeder treats the puppy well. If a puppy shies away from the breeder or acts frightened around the breeder, the puppy may be getting abused.

Buy the dog

Consider the price. Pure breed puppies can cost anywhere from $100-$5,000. Choose a puppy that falls within your budget. If you can't afford the puppy that costs $5,000, don't buy it. If your price range is $0, you still might be able to get a quality dog. Go to a dog shelter. Sometimes, you can find pure bred dogs in a shelter. Another good reason to get a dog from a shelter is to save the dog's life. If the shelter can't find a home for the dog, many times they will put the animal to sleep. You can get a dog, and save the dog's life. When you're ready, buy or rescue the dog.
