Learn how to craft this adorable snowman just in time for the holidays. You will be able to make this cheery snowman in a short amount of time, using minimal supplies. Get the kids involved and let them make their own snowman decoration. Because this snowman is partially filled with raw rice, it gives him a weighted bottom, so with a simple pounce he will stand nicely wherever he is placed. You can use your snowman as a table decoration or position him on a bookshelf etc. No matter where you place your snowman, he is sure to add joy to the holiday season.

Materials:
plain white sock (child's size)
3/4 cup raw rice
2 rubber bands
poly fill
fabric glue
pompom (any color)
black marker
orange craft foam
buttons
scrap fabric (for the scarf)

Directions:
Take the white sock and pour in the 3/4 cup of raw rice. Wrap a rubber band around the sock, just above the rice filling. This will form the snowman's body. Make a ball with the poly fill, slightly smaller than the body and place it in the sock above the snowman's body. Wrap a rubber band around the sock again, just above the poly fill. This is now the snowman's head.

Now take the remainder of the sock and fold the opening down and slightly over the snowman's head. This will be his little hat. Attach a pompom in any color you prefer to the top of the hat, using fabric glue.
Make a carrot shaped nose for your snowman with the orange foam. Cut out the carrot nose and position it in the center of the snowman's face and attach it with fabric glue. Now take the black marker and give your snowman his eyes and mouth.

You can decorate your snowman's body by gluing three buttons in a row or simply draw on the buttons with the marker. Next, give your snowman a scarf by tying a scrap of fabric around his neck.

Hints: When it comes to decorating your snowman, there are no right or wrongs. If you would like to make your snowman a girl, just change out the pompom and add a bow with ribbon. If you would like your snowman to shimmer paint him with the adhesive paint and sprinkle on some glitter. I myself like to use to glass glitter which gives the snowman a frosty look, but this is not recommended for children as it is made with tiny bits of glass. If you would like to give your snowman a pair of arms, you can use small twigs from the yard. Snip a small hole on each side of the snowman and add hot glue to the ends of the twigs and insert them into the holes. To give your snowman a rosy glow, apply a little blush to his cheeks.

These are just a few ideas to consider, I'm sure you can come up with many more. Have a wonderful time crafting your snowman and enjoy the up coming holidays!
