Customize These Decorative Air Fresheners with Your Favorite Scented Oils
Materials:
plaster of paris
soap or candle molds
acrylic craft paints (any color)
sealer
paint brush
essential oil or fragrance oil (any scent you like)
1/4" ribbon glue.
Directions:
Follow the directions on the container for preparing the plaster of paris. Now pour the plaster of paris into your mold. You will want to fill two of the exact same molds.Let the molds set up and dry overnight. Once the plaster of paris has dried, pop the shapes out of the mold.
Paint the fronts sides of each molded shape with the acrylic paints, in the colors you have chose for your air freshener. Allow the acrylic paint to dry.
Once the paint has thoroughly dried, brush on a coat of sealer over the painted surface only. Once again allow to dry.
After the sealer has dried, turn the molded shapes face down. Add a few drops of the scented oil onto the unpainted backsides of each one. The scented oil should absorb into the plaster fairly quick.
Next, cut a piece of ribbon approximately 10" long. Fold the ribbon in half and glue the folded end to the backside of one of the molded shapes, near the top. Now add a generous amount of glue to the backside of each molded shape, then push the two sides together tightly, lining up the edges. Let the air freshener dry. Tie the ends of the ribbon into a bow.
To hang the decorative air fresheners in the car, simply drape the ribbon over the review mirror or a garment hook. To hang the decorative air fresheners in the closet, untie the bow and tie the air freshener to the garment pole.
Hints: You could also craft these decorative air fresheners into scented Christmas ornaments with a few simple changes. Use candle or soap molds with shapes associated with Christmas, like: snowmen, angels, stars, trees, Santa's etc. Choose an essential oil or fragrance oil that are reminders of Christmas, such as: pine, cinnamon or peppermint. Cut the length of the ribbon, approximately 6" long and overlap the ends and glue them to the backsides according to the directions above. This will give them a nice ribbon loop for hanging them on the Christmas tree.
Enjoy your decorative air fresheners!
