Susan Causey School of Dance has been instruction in many forms of dance since 1980, so this is a well-established institution. They specialize in beginner's ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop and lyrical dance and they take ages 3 through college. She also has an after school class on certain days for the pre-school children. Pre-registration starts this month (April) and runs through the end of May. Tuition is $45, $50 and $60, depending on the grade level. Call them to find out about registering a child for the 2007 session.

Dance Explosion concentrates on tap, lyrical and jazz dance. They train young women (and boys) with a very impressive staff that has performed all over the country. The teams and soloists trained here have won numerous awards for the skills they learned from these instructors. They are evidently popular enough to have been able to open up a second location at 931 Orangeburg Rd. One hour-long class per week is $40 per month, two is $70 and three is $100. Five or more classes a week will cost $155. Call them for registration information since this is the end of their season.

Trudy's School of dance is another old-timer, having been in business since 1939! They have several location and the primary instructors are a former Broadway Performer and a former professional ballerina. This company teaches group lessons in tap, ballet, jazz and pointe, and musical theater. They have two locations, one on James Island, the other on Mt. Pleasant Island. This studio is the oldest and one of the largest in South Carolina, but it has sure kept up with the times. They even teach an energtic hip-hop dance class! I could not find any pricing on their site, so I suppose that interested students or their parents should contact them by email or by the phone number for the Mt. Pleasant location.
