Learn French by Michel Thomas

I'm not sure how many of you have heard of Michel Thomas or his revolutionary new French teaching course, I know I never until I found it on amazon.com one day whilst looking for French learning programs or audio (My girlfriend is French and she is planning on teaching it to our brand new daughter) it sounded interesting. Basically it is a pack of audio CDs in which this older guy "Michel Thomas" teaches French from beginners level all the way to advanced , one of the first things he tells you is that you should not try to memorize any of the French words or phrases he will speak, but instead to just listen and eventually you will pick it up.

Another interesting feature is that he actually has to other students who are learning French on the CDs who interact with him and ask him questions that you cannot, for example they will ask how to pronounce a certain word or phrase and he will show them again the proper way to say it, this helps a great deal as it also seems like you are with other students therefore giving yourself the advantage of learning from others.

So far I have only done the first couple of CDs and I can already say quite a few sentences and words that I didn't know before. Interestingly enough I actually think that the rule of not memorizing actually helps a lot more as it makes more room to learn many phrases. I would definitely recommend you acquire these CDs somehow or another as they are definitely worth the small price I paid for them .

I think one of the main reasons that this program is handy is because you can just throw them on your I-pod or mp3 player and listen to them throughout the day no matter what your doing. In as little as 12 hours you can actually learn pretty much all of the basics of the French language. I already find myself uttering French words and sentences.

In a country where everyone is very snobby to foreigners and tourists who don't speak the language it is very useful to have at least a basic knowledge and communication ability, it definitely helped me.

Michel Thomas also teaches a number of other language such as Italian, German, even Arabic, he is easy to understand and has a clarity in his pronunciations that really helped me pick it up fast.

All in all it is a great audio collection and advisable to any serious learner who wants to pick up a language fast and on the go.

I love writing and I'll do a review on pretty much anything if it sparks my interest.  View profile
