The first program is a program for women to learn how to play hockey for ages 18 and over. It's open to beginner and intermediate skills and will teach skating, how to handle the stick, shooting and passing with offensive and defensive techniques. Classes are held Monday night from 7:15pm to 8:15pm. For young kids there's also a hockey class for children ages 4-10 years old. Each program costs $99.00 and are eight weeks long. Adult participates must be registered with USA Hockey at a $30 fee per year while children are required to be registered with USFS for a fee of $5.00 per year.
Toddlers can learn the basics of skating with their mom or dad right by their side with a new program that is offered on Tuesday or Thursday mornings from 9:00am to 10:00am. The program is open to toddlers ages 3-5 years and a parent or guardian. The program is taught by head instructor of ASA Casey Congel. Enrollment is $99.00 plus the cost of $5.00 for USFS registration fee.
If you're looking to learn only the basics of skating then the Adirondack Skating Academy Basic Skills Learn to skate may be the program for you. Classes are taught on Sunday afternoons, Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings. Participates must be 3 years or older. The learn to skate program costs $99.00 plus the $5.00 USFS registration fee for the 8 week program. The costs of the program includes a 30 minute class session with 30 minutes of free skating. Classes are limited and taught by Adirondack Skating Academy teachers.
To register for any of the above programs, pick up the Lake George Forum newsletter. The information needed is : Student's name, D.O.B, Gender, Parent/guardian Name, Address, State, Zip, Phone, E-mail, years skated and how you would classify yourself. For example do you consider yourself a beginner, intermediate or advanced skater? The USA hockey registration fee and USFS registration fee are only paid once per session. Suggestions for learning to skate program are to dress in layers and wear thin socks. Gloves or mittens are a good idea to help protect in case of falling and helmets are recommended for children under 6 years of age. Learning to play hockey suggests to have:
shoulder and elbow pads
Hockey gloves
Hockey pants
Shin guards
Hockey skates
A jersey
Water bottle
Garter belt/protective cup
Perhaps you or someone else isn't quite into ice skating, the Lake George Forum also has a four seasons fitness center that offers strength training and cardio equipment. Currently membership is $59.00 for 6 months and $99.00 for one year. The fitness center overlooks the ice skating rink.
