Learn to Improve Your Body Image

Ask random people on the street and most will say that aren't happy with their bodies. The women will even give you a detailed report on what is wrong with their bodies. It distracts people with worrying about how they look and it can even lead some people to develop eating disorders.

No one should spend a lifetime hating their bodies. It's going to be yours as long as your alive and you should love it, flaws and all. There's nothing wrong with loving yourself and your imperfections. Here are just a few ideas on how to start improving your body image.

1. Know that no one is perfect. Even people who are tall and thin, still have flaws. Just do your best to exercise regularly and eat right. Know that you are being the best you can be, take pride in that.

2. Don't compare yourself to others. You aren't them. You and your body are completely different entities. You will never have so-and-sos legs or tummy. You will always have your legs and your tummy. There's nothing wrong in liking what you have.

3. Exercise and eat right in an effort to be healthy. Yes, both will have an effect on your weight, but that shouldn't be the sole reason for them. Feeling good and living longer are the best reasons for a healthy lifestyle.

4. Know the right weight for your height and frame. It will put your mind at ease to know where you are compared to the medical standards. A lot of people who think they're overweight, actually aren't when it comes to the average.

5. Focus on what's good in your life. When you like your life, it makes it easier to like your body. If there are aspects of your life that you are unhappy with, change them. It will surprise you how much these things can effect your body image.

6. Change your self-talk. We all say negative things to ourselves. STOP. If you don't have something nice to say to yourself, don't say it. The more positive things you hear, the more confidence you will build in yourself. There's enough negativity in the world without adding negative self-talk to the mix.

7. Focus on what pleases you about your body. We all have something we like about ourselves, make that your primary focus. Accent it, make it stand out.

8. Pamper your body. All bodies love a nice soak in a hot tub. It's revitalizing and calming. Or get a manicure or pedicure, show your body that it's important to you. Make it part of your weekly routine.

9. Let people compliment you. Just reply with a "thank you". Receiving and accepting a compliment is hard for a lot of us. Learn to feel good when someone praises you.

10. Don't overestimate your weight. Most women will give a higher number than they actually weigh. Why? Because that's how they see themselves. Don't be one of those people. If you don't know your weight, just say so.

11. Find support. It can be a support group or just some really good friends. You need to bring people into your life who will let you be you. And who will support you without criticism.

12. Don't be afraid to find help. If you just cannot come to terms with your body image, it's okay to seek out a therapist. Sometimes an outsider can help you gain perspective and work through your issues.

13. Look at your naked self. Walk around the house naked. Teach yourself that it's okay to be naked and you look fine. Love your natural curves and faults, everyone has them.

14. Make sure your clothes fit. When you don't feel good about your body, you have a tendency to wear baggy clothes to hide it. Then, the baggy, loose fitting clothes make you body image worse because you look awful. Buy well fitting comfortable clothes, show off your curves.

15. Give yourself time. You won't wake up tomorrow and be completely comfortable with yourself. It will take time and real effort to change how you see yourself. Don't look for instant gratification.

Habits aren't changed over night, and negative self-image is a habit. It takes a lot of effort, lifestyle changes and retraining how you see yourself. When all the hard work is done, it's well worth it. You will be more confident, enjoy life more, and have more time to do other things.
