Try New Ingredients
Cooking while dieting doesn't have to be boring. Grocery stores now carry more foods than they ever have. Dieters now have access to some of the best foods in the world including a large variety of fruits, vegetables, lean meats and low fat dairy products. The next time you want to prepare your favorite recipe, look for new ingredients to replace the high fat ingredients in the recipe. For example, if the recipe calls for full fat milk, try adding soymilk. New ingredients not only make great substitutes for high fat ingredients, but trying new foods can also make cooking enjoyable again.
Hunt Out New Recipes
Sometimes your favorite recipes simply can't adjusted and maintain the same flavor. Hunting new recipes not only gives you variety, but gives you the chance to try new recipes that are actually good for you. Start your search on the internet or visit your local library and borrow a few books that contain recipes that meet your dietary needs. Slowly incorporate new meals into your weekly cooking and soon you'll have new favorites that won't expand your waistline.
Challenge Yourself
Cooking low fat foods can become mundane. You may feel like you're grilled and steaming a lot of food. This can eventually make all your meals taste the same. Instead of relying on these age old techniques, challenge yourself try new cooking methods. Roasting, braising, slow cooking, broiling, sauteing and stir frying can all be used to create low fat meals. There are many tutorials devoted to these cooking methods that can be found online. There are also thousands of cookbooks to be found. Another way to challenge yourself to tackle seasonings. When cooking low fat meals, seasonings are essential. Discovering calorie free ways to season foods will save you a ton of calories. Try using new spices, citruses and herbs to flavor your meals. Remember though that fresh herbs and spices will always have more flavor. If you must use dried herbs, crush the herbs between your fingers to release their oils.
