If you don't have a recorder just yet, you can purchase one at your local music store or online for about $5-$10. Quality brands include Yamaha, Tudor and Gill.
Free Video Lesson #1: Introduction to the Recorder
This first lesson will introduce you to the whole note, half note and quarter note. You will also learn a little bit about musical pitch. Three notes are all you will need to play your first song, and that's just what will be covered in this lesson.
Free Video Lesson #2: Hot Cross Buns
The first song that you will learn is Hot Cross Buns. The melody is very repetitive and only uses three notes. It's a great song to start with, and it's fun to play.
Free Video Lesson #3: Jingle Bells
Jingle Bells is a five note melody, introducing C and D. If you have mastered the introductory lesson material, as well as Hot Cross Buns, you will be ready for this challenge.
Free Video Lesson #4: Ode to Joy
Ode to Joy from Beethoven's Ninth Symphony is the next song. It uses the same five notes as Jingle Bells, and offers a slightly greater challenge. Learn Ode to Joy along with the video first, and then practice it on your own. When you think you have it, review this lesson one more time with the video to make sure you didn't forget anything.
Free Video Lesson #5: When the Saints Go Marching In
Our last soprano recorder video lesson will teach you how to play When the Saints Go Marching In. This popular Dixieland song uses the same five notes as the last two songs, and is the most challenging piece yet. Learn the song along with the video first, and then practice it on your own. When you think you have it, review this lesson one more time with the video to make sure you didn't forget anything.
