How to Find a Someone in the Texas Prison System

Rachelle Lynn Williams
Texas is a big and beautiful state. There are many things to see and do in Texas, but just make sure that you are seeing and doing the things that are on the right side of the law. If you didn't know, Texas has quite the reputation for being tough on those who operate on the opposite side of the law. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice runs the second largest prison system in the United States. It is obviously an expansive system, but if you have a loved one who is unfortunate enough to be an inmate within the walls of the TDCJ, it is relatively easy enough to locate them. Follow these steps to find a Texas prison inmate:

Point your browser to the TDCJ website and look at the homepage for the link that reads "GENERAL INFORMATION." Let your cursor rest on the link until a drop down menu appears. You can access the TDCJ website by clicking the live link below this article.

Within a matter of seconds a link will appear from the drop down menu that reads "OFFENDER INFORMATION." This link will take you to another page.

Click on the link that reads "GENERAL OFFENDER INFORMATION ONLY" and you will be moved to an area which will allow you to initiate the process of executing a Texas inmate search.

A link should appear which reads "ONLINE OFFENDER SEARCH." Click the link and you will be taken to another page. Sit on that page and wait to be redirected to the Texas prison inmate search page. It may take a while for the page to populate, so remain patient while the page loads.

Eventually, the Texas offender information search page will appear. From this page you will need to enter the inmate's name, race, and sex in the proper fields. If you do not have the SID or TDCJ number you can still complete your Texas inmate search without them.

Once you click "SUBMIT" you will be returned with the results that you seek. All currently incarcerated Texas offenders and parolees are listed in the Texas inmate search system. If your search doesn't get you the results you want, you should contact the TDCJ @ 936-295-6371, or 800-535-0283
