I can't believe a year already went by since I attended the Swap-O-Rama-Rama, sponsored by the Chicago Waldorf School, located at 1300 West Loyola Avenue in Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood. It's being held again on February 12, 2011 in the school's gym, and if it's anything like last year's workshops, I'll be able to pick up some sweet "new to me" clothes.

Last year, I brought in a bunch of clothes and got some new items and was able to transform them into designer looking duds! The hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., so you'll have plenty of time to enjoy the fun.

The gym is equipped with silk screening machines and sewing machines to help you get started. The event aims to help people creatively reuse items through recycling. I learned so much from last year's event, and still use the bag I made that honestly looks like a designer bag. Since I don't even know how to sew, one of the Swap-O-Rama-Rama coaches gave me a quick lesson on the basics of using a sewing machine, so that I would be able to do a few stitches without hurting myself!

The coolest thing about the event, in my opinion, was the silk screening machine. It was easy to use, and I even thought about getting one for my home. If you don't need any new clothes or fashion accessories, but still want to get in on the action, you can volunteer to be one of the coaches, if you know anything about sewing, or are a "green-oriented" type person.
