Learn How to Remove "Welcome to the Frontpage" from a Joomla Home Page

Stormy Knight
As a Joomla developer, you know that the default title tag on a fresh install of Joomla will have "Welcome to the Frontpage" as the title tag of the home page. This is not only bad from a search engine optimization point of view, it is also something that any website owner will want to change to conform with the rest of their site. Often, this is the first thing a client will want to change when presented with a site you developed for them in Joomla.

Before I go on, I will assume you have a current version of Joomla already installed and can access the administrator area of your website and are familiar with it.

The first thing you will want to do is log on the the administrator area of your site. Next ago to the "Menus" menu and click on "Main Menu", you will now be presented with all of the links currently on your main menu. If you have not changed the "Home" link, click on it. If you have changed it, make sure to click on whatever link has a gold star next to it in the "default" column.

Next, click on "Parameters (System)" located on the right hand side of the page. In the text box next to "Page Title", enter whatever you want to be in the title tag of your home page. You can also choose to have the title show up in the top of the article area by clicking "Yes" next to "Show Page Title". Now click "Save" to make your changes live.

Now you can verify your change by accessing your site home page. The new title should be visible on the top of your browser. You can also view the source code and look at the Title tag.
