Memphis loves to dance. After all, this city was the real birth place of the Rock and Roll greats and the famous studios that produced them-Ardent and Sun. There are so many clubs here where people dance like crazy and it's just something most people know how to do. For those who don't there are some ways to learn the ever more popular salsa dance styles. Don't go out again and have to sit on the sidelines. Salsa is a lively dance that's upbeat and fun for everyone. It's not just something for teens. I found some places that will teach beginners in this and other styles.

Salsa Beginner's Bootcamp is an absolutely incredible idea. It's a really intensive one-day learning experience for students who want to learn all the moves and the right steps in this dance style. Have fun and meet people here. They invite and even welcome singles. This lesson takes place June 9^th , beginning at 9 a.m. for registration with a light breakfast. It begins with the Basics, then turns and spin techniques. Lunch is included in this bootcamp, then on to an afternoon of demos, music and training on dips and breaks. At the end of all this, they will get to practice with their new friends at area clubs. The cost for this is $95 at the door and $70 for registration online. Salsa Memphis is one of the best ways to learn the styles here in town. It has been applauded in many local publications as the premier studio instruction in this dance. Classes are held at the Salsa Dance Factory in East Memphis with instruction for groups, private lessons, teens, performance and choreography. Beginner and intermediate classes take place Mondays, beginning at 7 p.m. four classes cost just $40 and last for over an hour. But here's a deal. On Saturday nights from 9:30-10, Edgar Mendez offers free lessons to people at the High Point Pinch. The number to call for the free lessons is 901-525-4444. The Celeste Dance club bills itself as the sexiest and classiest club for salsa dance in Memphis. It is a club for people 21 years and up-definitely an adult locale. They strictly enforce their "business casual" dress code, so come forewarned. This culls out inappropriate dress that is tasteless and disrespectful. They have free intro to Salsa on Friday evenings at 9 p.m. with a $5 cover for the club. June 9, 10 is a special two-day salsa event-a bootcamp with Edie the Salsa Freak . Their regular lessons are on Tuesdays. I would call them to get some more detailed information on their cover charges and details on their schedules, plus costs.
