Learn how to Save Money on Prom Flowers

Well, if you've gotten this far, you have a prom date. Now you need to know how to go about getting the flowers! Traditionally, the girl gives her date a Boutonnière, which is a flower that will go on his lapel, and the guy gets his date a corsage, which is a miniature arrangement of flowers that will go on her wrist. You can buy them separately or together, but either way be sure to know exactly what colors each of you will be in so that the flowers match! Here are some money-saving tips on how to buy the flowers.

1.Order online. This may or may not save you money, so shop around. The nice thing about doing it this way is that you may be able to get flowers your local florist doesn't carry. You can also order matching sets, if you decide that's what you'd like to do. Look for sales, too! In 2008, usa-flowers.com had a special on buying sets.

2.Order bulk. Have all your friends get together and go see a florist. If you're all ordering there, they might be able to give you a discount. Call around and see if any local shops will do that for you. If you can get, say, your whole football team, or the whole drama club, to go to that florist they'll be much more inclined to discount the purchase.

3.Know your florist. The florist will be much more inclined to help you out if they've had your business before. If you went to a specific one in the past, try them again. If you know someone who knows someone, try that direction, too. Don't wait until the last minute, though, or the florist won't be able to help you even if they want to. This is a busy season for them!

4.Do It Yourself. Have a party with your friends, go to an art store and get floral tape, wrist bands, pins, etc. Then go to the florist and buy cut flowers instead of premade. It'll be hard work, but you'll have one of a kind creations! Here are some videos on how to do it. If you're feeling really creative, go pick wildflowers for the project, too. It could be a nice date.

5.Pick in season flowers. Florists can give much better prices on flowers that are in season when you buy them. May is a good month for this, but you can ask them what would be your best options. Don't overlook flowers that are growing locally, either. Violets can make very pretty arrangements, and they bloom in or around May.

Have a safe and happy prom!
