Learn How to Shoot a Basketball

Drew Woods
You ever heard of the saying "practice makes perfect?" I doubt that anyone could ever become the "perfect" shooter but it is possible to become extremely good. By practicing your technique daily, you can improve your free throw and field goal shooting percentage considerably.

B.E.E.F. is a pneumatic device that I was taught in high school that I committed to my memory which always helped me when I got into a shooting slump.

B is for Balance. It is so important in your shooting to have a good base and keep proper balance. You can accomplish this by keeping your legs about shoulder length apart and keeping your knees slightly bent.

E is for Elbow. Your elbow should be directly under the ball and your arm should be set at a ninety degree angle.

E is for Eyes. Focus your eyes on the front of the rim. It also helps to use visual realization. Perform this exercise by picturing the basketball going into the basket. I have found this very helpful for shooting free throws in a hostile environment.

F is for Follow Through. The fingers on your shooting hand should be spread out but relaxed. Put your off-hand on the ball but only for guidance. Flick your wrist to add backspin to the basketball which will improve your chances of making the shot. Follow through.
