Aroma Therapy - The Basics
A good place to start your relaxation exploration is with aroma therapy. Aroma therapy is basically just the infusion of scent in your environment to elicit an emotional and physical response. Some scents are going to elicit an invigoration response while others will elicit a more calming response.
To start your aroma therapy session you first need to determine which scents your body responds to and how it responds to the scent. To do this start with a basic chart that lists the different scents that you are going to try and then have a simply yes/no column to identify which scents you like and which ones you do not, and finally have a third column that will be a free response column that you will write down your physical or emotional response.
An emotional response, for example, may be that it makes you feel happy, while a physical response may be that it makes you feel itchy. The physical responses can help you to determine if you are allergic or sensitive to certain scents. Those that you have a negative response to you can avoid.
Setting Up Your Aroma Therapy
Aroma therapy can be delivered in several different ways. The first is through the burning of incense or scented candles. This is a great option if you do not have smoke allergies and if you have a safe place to burn these items. If you want a safer option for your aroma therapy session then bring some water to a boil in a tea kettle. Pour the boiling water into a shallow dish. Then place a few drops of essential oils of the scent that you want. The vaporization of the water will infuse the air with the scent that you selected.
