Chess is recognized as a superlative way to hone children and adult's math skills. It also teaches strategizing, patient concentration, and methods of approaching problems. When you think about it, a game is the perfect method for teaching anything. Look at how effective video games are at catching children's attention. Because of this some of the more progressive schools are beginning to include some chess instruction into their general curriculum, or to offer lessons to interested kids after school. There are also private lessons for parents who can afford them. Atlanta, like many large cities, is lucky to have some options for residents and those living nearby.

Championship Chess has added another school to the roster of chess clubs in Metro Atlanta. Morris Brandon Elementary School in Atlanta now has an after school chess club in the after-school program and it drew 60 students who applied to their program. Championship Chess is obviously a program that has a great appeal to area residents. Over the last few years, over 800 students in public and private school all over the metro Atlanta area now being coached by this organization. But this also includes the counties of Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas and Fulton and Gwinnett counties. Championship Chess introduces the game to children as young as 5 and 6, using a giant chessboard, music CDs, and large bottles of different sizes to move around on the board as different chess pieces. It's a brilliant concept and really captures children's interest. Their players rank in the top Ten in the state and in the top One Hundred countrywide.
