The first thing that one should do in their quest to learn how to cook is to buy a cookbook. Even though this may seem like the most obvious action to take, many people may be stumped as to how they are going to cook for their family that is visiting their new apartment for prepare a meal for their significant other! Learning how to cook is essentially practicing by following directions in a cookbook; that's all there is to it.
Once you have been "cooking" for a certain length of time and are confident in your cooking skills in following directions within a recipe, you can then begin to be creative by doing other things with your food! For example, what about the breakfast that you made the other morning that included pancakes and bacon? What about throwing some blueberries or bananas into the pancake batter? Trying some new foods by adding things to the mixture or by substituting is one of the basic things that you can do in order to start cooking on your own.
Using a Crockpot
You'll never know how much you love your microwave until you've discovered a Crockpot. A Crockpot can work wonders for luscious meats, stews, and even certain casseroles. Learning how to use a Crockpot will give you that "edge" over some of your peers. When you use a Crockpot, all you really need to know is the temperature setting and about how long to cook certain meats and foods inside it.
