Learning Facebook - How to Make Your Home Page Easier to Handle by Hiding Selected Friends and Applications

B.J. Rychener
Facebook is one of the leading social networking sites on the web today but it is not always easy to use. One thing that I hear multiple complaints about is the fact that the Facebook home page is overwhelming with posts by your friends, pages, and games. In this tutorial I am going to show you how to make your Facebook home page much easier to read and navigate.

Your Facebook home page is the page you normally see when you first log in to your Facebook account. It is the page where all your Facebook friend's posts appear, including status updates, shared links, notes, photos, gift applications, and game updates appear. If your friends are very active on Facebook, especially if they do not know how to limit their posted activity, your Facebook home page can become very overwhelming and may make you less inclined to log in and share.

Luckily there are certain things that you can do to keep this page clutter free and limited to the updates and information that you want to see.

The first item I want to mention is the 'Hide' button. On your Facebook home page if you move your mouse pointer to the upper right hand corner of a post and click on the 'Hide' button that will appear while you hover.

The post will disappear and you should see a gray bar with a button that will allow you to either hide all posts from the person and a cancel button. If the post is also from a game or gift application you will see a third button that when clicked will hide all posts from that particular application.

Should you click the wrong button (i.e. hide posts from a friend when you wanted to hide posts from 'Redneck Gifts' per say) all you have to do is scroll down to the gray bar along the bottom of your Facebook home page and click on 'Edit Options'.

A new dialog box will appear. In this box on the right hand side you should see the people and apps that you have hidden from your feed. Click on the 'x' to the left of the items that you would like to add back into your feed and be sure to click on 'Save'.

I'm going to try sending this one to my mom. For some reason, AC wouldn't let me e-mail the other one!
