Learning the Hard Way

Don Rothra
I sit here in my easy chair

And think of days gone by,

Of all the crazy things I've done,

When no one asked me why.

I've traveled many rocky roads,

Ignoring the smooth ride.

I've come against some barriers,

I've had to push aside.

I've waded deep into the stream,

I've gone in o'er my head,

When things would have been easier,

To take the bridge instead.

If I took the easy way,

That's traveled far and wide

I never would have learned a thing,

And in that I can't abide.

Someone might posit that learning that is easy, isn't really useful learning at all... It is, rather, simply a reinforcement of something we already believe we know?!
