Learning to love yourself is the toughest goal to accomplish in life. When you don't love yourself, you tend to look for love in your job, relationship, and children. You feel like there is a void in your life and there is a need to fulfill it. Even the smallest thing like a compliment leaves you feeling unworthy and insecure. There are small steps you can take without paying for therapy.
First of all, find something positive about yourself. It is easy to find the negative. You have to dig much deeper to see the positive in yourself. Just take the time to look at yourself. Whether you are good at giving advice to help people or you enjoy cooking. Focus on those things and the positive effect it brings to your life. You would be surpised by how just focusing on the good things will change your outlook.
Next, look at the people you surround yourself with. If all you hear is what you should do or what you can do better then maybe its time for some new friends. It is fact, if you surround yourself with negative energy then you are likely to be negative also. If there is something your passionate about such as knitting, cooking, reading, or enjoy listening to people then do something about it. By either joining a book or knitting club or taking a cooking class. The nursing home is a great place to spend time with people who look forward to having your company and listening to them.
There are many reasons why you don't love yourself. It could be your low self-esteem or your childhood. If you don't figure out why you don't love yourself then you will never have a healthy relationship. You will always rely on others for your happiness and just get disappointed when people don't meet your expectations. Some people have children because they want to be loved but it just doesn't work that way. When you bring life in this world, it is your responsibility to give love without expecting love back. With your spouse you will never feel completely loved by him/her because you don't love yourself completely. These are just a few small steps to begin to start loving yourself. It will be a long bumpy road to finding happiness with yourself instead of needing to fulfill that for you. It can be done! Don't get discouraged and keep going forward no matter what!
