"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." Proverbs 3: 5-6
We are to be steadfast in our love and faithfulness according to Proverbs 3, but also we are to trust God in all things above our own understanding. I am learning enough now to know that I just don't know enough. I am not supposed to know everything. I am supposed to defer to God.
When I have my heart and mind focused on allowing God to work in my life and lead me down the right paths, acknowledging his will instead of my own, that is when I see blessings pour into my life. When I slip back into trying to be "in control" of everything, then things begin to head the wrong way. Now I know where to refer back to when I need a little reality check on my role.
The last part of Proverbs 3 is where I really find some great wisdom pertaining to me.
"Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it. Do not say to your neighbor, 'Go, and come again, tomorrow I will give it' - when you have it with you. Do not plan evil against your neighbor, who dwells trustingly beside you. Do not contend with a man for no reason, when he has done you no harm." Proverbs 3: 27-30
I have been one of those people who sometimes makes assumptions about peoples intentions and character before I have a reason to. Suspicions would become truth in my mind. Clearly, I was wrong in doing so, but it is spelled out perfectly here. If someone has done me no harm, I have no reason to contend with them. Controversy and opposition to them is uncalled for.
And further, when I can do something good for someone, I should be doing it. And doing it now. There is instruction here to do good without delaying.
