Least Affordable Cities in the United States

MisterSteve
Although United States home prices are some of the lowest that they have been in many years, some cities are still quite expensive to live in. Among these least affordable cities in the United States, New York is still the least affordable city and has been for quite some time. With the median income remaining constant and even faltering in some cases, the median home price of $418,000 in New York City is simply beyond the means of most individuals and families.

Coming in a close second, San Francisco, California has always had a reputation for being an expensive place to live. Naturally, the median home price of $525,000 in the San Francisco area is outrageous when compared with other, more affordable areas in the nation. This focus on affordability can lead many to avoid these extremely expensive cities.

Los Angeles, California has always been somewhat expensive, and has changed very little over the years. With a median home price of $288,000, combined with extremely expensive products and fuel in the area, Los Angeles continues to be one of the least affordable cities in the United States. Anyone considering relocating would be well advised to steer clear of any city in California, as the state itself is extraordinarily expensive due to liberal policies and activists who continuously force the price of fuel and other goods up, as well as having extremely strict emissions standards for automobiles.

Rounding out the list are cities such as Honolulu, Santa Ana, Newark, Miami and El Paso. Anyone considering relocating would be well advised to steer clear of the least affordable cities in the United States and conduct some research into what cities are more affordable and suitable for a family environment.

Whatever type of relocation that you might be considering, it makes sense to do the proper amount of research and make sure that you aren't moving to an area where you can't afford a home. With all the recent foreclosures, it is clear that real estate is cheaper than it has been in many years. This does not mean that you can afford to move to an area that doesn't have the industry and infrastructure backbone to enable you to earn the type of money that is required to afford the median home price.

In your effort to relocate and find a more affordable climate, the research that you conduct into the least affordable cities can help you to steer clear of areas that are simply untenable and will cost you more than it is worth to relocate.
