Leather Bound Journals Make Good Christmas Gifts (and Make Me Drool)

Rose Ellen
In my letter correspondence with Santa, I finally settled on asking for office supplies. Many think I'm crazy for wanting office supplies for Christmas. The truth is, I'm not the only one. There are people like me who really like getting fancy pens, paper, journals, post-its, tape, glue, and other office supplies. Leather Journals have been on my Christmas gift wish list for years. I like the rustic feel of leather, especially when it binds together hand made paper that has a torn edge look. Handmade paper takes more energy and so it feels more precious to write on. What I write then feels more important. Leather has a soft feel that makes me feel pampered but also a hard feel that makes me feel strong. Journals make great gifts because they become more valuable as they are used. Giving high quality hand made journals as a gift sends the recipient a warm Christmas message that you value their thoughts and words enough to feel they deserve high quality materials.

When I feel the urge to look at hand made journals, I usually go to local fair trade stores and fairs. These seem to be prime places to purchase rustic items. Journals can be made with paper from more sustainable sources. These sources can make the journal seem even more rustic. I enjoy the look and feel of banana paper, coffee paper, even elephant poo paper. I also feel better looking at unique journals, hand made with love, that are also more sustainable than the standardized notebooks found at places like WalMart.

I was working on the Internet and found an ad that I couldn't resist clicking on. A beautiful leather bound hand made journal with a rustic feel looked out at me from the side of my browser. I couldn't help but click on the ad. Where I ended up was the La Vida Bella Company website. I admit, I drooled. So many beautiful hand made leather journals all in one place. Now, I can't do a real review since I haven't tried their products, but I have handled a lot of leather bound journals in my years of office supply and tactile obsessions and if these leather bound journals are half as awesome as they look then you'll find them worth the money.

If you have a friend or family member who is like me and loves office supplies, get them what they want. It may seem strange to you but Christmas gifts can be whatever makes the person feel special, loved, and understood. For me, getting office supplies for Christmas makes me smile. If you want me to drool this Christmas, however, give me a hand made leather journal from La Vida Bella Company.

The problem I encounter with journals is that while they can be quite beautiful and are always well intended, few people seem able to maintain them over time. Always worth a new try, though!
