Are we sensing a trend in Illinois? Throw the trial balloon out that you might leave the state and watch the governor come running. And then, tax incentives are handed out and all are happy.
Huh?
When word that Motorola wanted to jump ship, they were graced with $100 million in tax incentives to stay put - - for at least 10 years.
Now, the ball is in Sears' corner. What will happen? If they bolt it will be quite a jolt to the local economy, which is already hurting.
The taxes in Illinois are one main reason these balloons are being filled. Gov. Quinn seeks to assure the residents that all is well and then he gives these tax incentives, which goes against the idea of getting more money from these businesses. So, the people are, once again, stuck with the bill. How about incentives for us? The trial balloon that really burst was when Caterpillar was rumored to want to take their business elsewhere. Hit the panic button Mr. Quinn, taxes are indeed too high in Illinois. Why else would you hand out all those incentives?
