Lebanon: Government in Crisis; 'Day of Rage' to Protest Hezbollah

Julia Bodeeb
When Hezbollah pulled out its members from the parliament in Lebanon, it caused a government collapse. There is much speculation now about who will be the next prime minister. Caretaker Prime Minister Saad Hariri is now trying to regain his role. He had been serving as prime minister since being elected after the assassination of his father, Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri.

Hezbollah is believed to be responsible for that murder. This group is linked to Iran and is probably behind many of the political assassinations in Lebanon. The Special Tribunal of Lebanon will soon release their official findings about Rafiq Hariri's assassination. There is much unrest in the country as people await the information contained in the tribunal report.

Hezbollah Backs Najib Mikat for Prime Minister

Hezbollah has announced that they will support former Prime Minister Najib Mikat for the role of prime minister, notes the Daily Star. They say they want a unity government. That is a bit ironic, since Hezbollah was probably behind the assassinations of members of parliament who were linked to the March 14 group. Hezbollah does not believe in unity; it uses violence to try to seize power.

Day of Rage to Protest Hezbollah

A "Day of Rage" in Lebanon to protest Hezbollah is expected soon, notes Ya Libnan. There are calls for peaceful protests to support Saad Hariri. However, recently Hezbollah took to the streets in a show of power. So if widespread protests break out, there may be conflict and violence.

Rafiq Hariri was Rebuilding Lebanon

Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri had been funding much rebuilding in Lebanon after the civil war. His assassination was a deep loss for the country. And now Hezbollah is again bringing chaos to Lebanon. This occurs at a time when the country was showing a 7 percent economic growth and strong tourism, notes the Daily Star.

A Hezbollah Government will Isolate Lebanon

If Hezbollah is in charge of the government in Lebanon, it will certainly bring change to how our government interacts with Lebanon. America will likely pull back funds and limit interaction with Lebanon if Hezbollah has control of the government. Hezbollah has murdered Americans. Thus, they are not a group our government will interact with.

Hezbollah previously kidnapped American journalist Terry Anderson. At that time, he was working in Beirut as the Associated Press bureau chief. He was held captive by Hezbollah for almost seven years. He was eventually released and now lives in America.

Hezbollah also used a truck bomb to attack an American Marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1983. This terrorist attack killed 241 American Marines, notes CBS News. The building they were in was destroyed. This surprise attack caused such an enormous loss of life. It it tragic that Hezbollah makes its points with bombs.

Thus, America has valid reasons to view Hezbollah as terrorists. The leader of Hezbollah also continues to spout anti-American and anti-Israel rhetoric.

Prayers to the people of Lebanon. They must revolt against this heinous organization. A people that do nothing are easily conquered. I fear Americans have become so complacent about extreme terrorism because the government doesn't want to call it what it is, that this could happen here. Great detailed report, Julia.

Pluto is in Capricorn until 2023. This calls for massive uprisings and upheaval of establishment all over the world. Revolutions and government crises are only going to pick up, but what comes out of it should be better in the end; a better balance of power among peoples.

As sad as this is, it is another instance of a country letting these people acquire too much power. I hope they are successful in keeping peace in their country.
