Lebron James as a Free Agent!

Will He Go to the Knicks, Sorry Knicks--I Just Don't See It

Lebron James will be a free agent next year during the NBA's collective bargaining agreement sessions. Which means, the Cleveland Cavs start who happen to be born and raised in Ohio-and is a hometown favorite maybe spending a career in Ohio. There are reasons why James will not come to New York: one any price that New York can grant, Cleveland can match-it's in Lebron's rookie contract. And if the matching price is too high by default, the NBA commission can reject the Knicks offer, and James will stay in Cleveland. I think that was the Jordan rule, when the last bargaining agreement took into effect. So if the matching offer is too high for NBA salaries, which will place other franchise in salary cap jeopardy-the NBA can reject a matching offer sheet for an agent.

Yet, that's not the reason on why James will come to NY Knicks-where it has everything to do with coaching, organization and affiliates plus members on the team. When you have a coach whose coaching style is off beat to the generic style and coaching experience that you are not use to-will play parts in making a choice. Lebron James likes to play defense, and Mike D'Antonio isn't known for his defensive choices. Also, James like to slow things down and play the convention motion, and sky box offensive sets-while Mike, will run a speed 1-4 low motional offensive set. The organization around the Metro area-which can be great and used, to influence him to come but it will be the affiliate market, and members on the team that will turn James away.

The New York Media market is not one to mess with, and I am not sure Lebron James will like this market. Jordan didn't like this market-he just loved shutting it up, and writers groomed at the shot of sticking it to Mike Jordan, where he jumped at the notion to shut them up. And my reason on why Lebron James will not go to the New York Knicks: TEAM.

There's no base for him there and it would be like going back to his rookie season with the Cavs. No NBA player would want to leave a team that is in contention for the finals and playoffs year in and year out-to fall back to a team not even payoff bound or ready. And it's not like the Knick have a legendary coach, or is having a bad year. It's the simple fact that the Knicks are not a championship contender, and will not be one even if James was on the roster. They don't have dominate players, or a dominate center that could make James come-they only have money, and when you have James' standards money isn't going to work. Why, Lebron James can get a weak contract with the Cavs, and make triple that off the endorsements.

And the only way James can get those endorsements-is if he was WINNING, while going to New York may lose that endorsement. Where it makes me think, Lebron James is on the level of Mike Jordan when it comes to celebrity status, and endorsement rings. Now all the Cavs have to do is supply James with role players that are good enough for him to win a championship.

  • Mike Jordan didn't come to New York--why will James.
  • James score more points beating the Knicks then he would playing for them.
  • Knicks is not a playoff contender!
Knicks don't have the right Coach or Coaching staff to bring in Lebron James. One they don't have Phill Jackson, or Pat Reily--so NO JAMES.
