LeBron James Doing Interview with Good Morning America About Miami Heat

ABC announced in a statement Thursday afternoon that LeBron James will be doing his first and only broadcast television interview with Good Morning America co-anchor Robin Roberts Thursday night.

The interview follows James' decision to pick the Miami Heat as the team he will be playing for next season in the NBA. LeBron James made the announcement Thursday night in an exclusive prime time interview on ESPN. The full interview will air Friday morning on "GMA" starting at 6AM EST.

ABC would not say how Roberts managed to score the only sit down interview with the NBA star, but sources said Robin has been actively pursuing booking an interview with LeBron James throughout the time he was a free agent.

More details came out Thursday night about how serious LeBron James was about making sure this interview was a surprise for his fans and kept a secret until the 9PM airing on ESPN.

Maverick Carter, who is the head of James' marketing company, negotiated the deal with ESPN before the July 4th holiday to be the only network to get the interview with LeBron James where he made the announcement. The biggest stipulation for James was that Jim Gray be the first person to interview him on the show.

ABC said in their statement there were no restrictions in the Robin Roberts interview and LeBron James was very open about serious questions during the interview.

While James did try to keep the decision under wraps until Thursday night several online sources are reporting ESPN and Newsday already let it slip he had decided to go to the Miami Heat.

The other choices of cities LeBron James could have gone to was his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio and The Cleveland Cavaliers or The New York Knicks.

During the interview on ESPN crowd reactions were captured in Miami and Cleveland. There were also reports of sporadic outbreaks of angry protesters in Cleveland burning James' jersey in anger.
