LeBron James' Game 2 Buzzer Beater - New "The Shot"?

Years ago, it was a jump shot from the free throw line by Michael Jordan that put a dagger in the Cleveland Cavaliers. The image of arguably the greatest NBA legend ever jumping and pumping his fist is forever ingrained in the minds of everyone, especially Cavs fans, who bore witness to his greatness.

In Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals, LeBron James etched himself in lore for his buzzer-beating three-point shot that took the lead and sealed the win for the Cavaliers.

If LeBron missed that shot, the Cavaliers would have been facing a seemingly insurmountable 0-2 series deficit heading to Orlando for the next two games. Instead, LeBron answered any questions of his clutch shooting and sealed any debate (if there was any left) over the MVP season he's had.

The Cavaliers, having led by as much as 24 in the 2nd quarter, appeared to be choking once again. But with one last gasping breath, LeBron threw up a 3-point shot right in front of Hedo Turkoglu, and the entire arena stood breathless as they watched the ball find the bottom of the basket.

You can guess the crowd's reaction.

This is something you're going to see for a long time; an instant classic. Dwight Howard recalled his thoughts during the post-game press conference, saying, "It was crazy watching the ball when he threw it up. It was like watching a movie. The ball was just spinning, it was just like watching a real movie."

If Michael Jordan's Cav-crushing buzzer beater was called "The Shot" then this should just be "The Shot 2". The image of the former, Jordan's jumping fist-pump, is rivaled by James' cross-court run with his fist raised, being chased down by his ecstatic teammates. My guess is that both will be staples of ESPN highlight reels for decades to come.
