Lebron James' Mom Reportedly Had Affair with Delonte West

Lebron James' moms reported affair with Delonte West has lit up the Internet. In yet another example of how things can spiral out of control, it has been reported on the Internet on several sites that the primary reason behind the erratic play of Cleveland's Lebron James during the last two NBA playoff games between his Cavaliers and the Boston Celtics was not his sore elbow, or the pressure of carrying an entire state on his broad shoulders. It was not the fact that he was playing against an experienced and talented Celtics team, or that his supporting cast was not picking up the slack. According to these salacious rumors, the reason that James struggled was that he had recently been informed that his mother, Gloria James, had been having a torrent relationship with one of his teammates, Delonte West. Actually, the rumor is that James was notified just minutes before game 4 in the series. This was the apparent burden that James carried as he led his team into battle.

Many are rightfully suggesting that the timing of these allegations are at-best questionable. With all of the rumors swirling about the possibility that James may leave the Cleveland Cavaliers this summer on the heels of a very disappointing playoff series defeat, it would not be beyond reason to suspect that there are entities out there who would love to tarnish the reputation of the all-star guard. Is it possible that there may be disgruntled fans, or even teammates that would jump at the opportunity to start such a vicious rumor? None of the allegations have been substantiated by any reputable sources, and the very nature of these rumors points to the possibility that they are not true. All parties are innocent until proven guilty.

Culture of Mistrust

Unfortunately, in the wake of the Tiger Woods revelation it is all-too-common to believe the sordid stories involving athletes and high-profile individuals making decisions that are unhealthy and destructive. Sports and popular culture are littered with stories of misbehavior and moral ineptitude. Still, this rumor involving James and his mom introduces an even more disturbing trend. The rumor is not referring to the athlete himself, but rather to James' mother. She is not a high-paid athlete. Ms. James is not a public personality, or internationally know figure. In the opinion of many, even if the rumors were true, it is inappropriate to involve the family members of our national celebrities in this kind of hurtful situation.
