LeBron James MVP Award Victory Made Official

Robert Dougherty
LeBron James has gotten nearly every honor except the MVP, and an NBA title. The MVP honor was expected to be fixed, as LeBron James hopes to fix the other missing piece in a month. Today, it was made official a day before LeBron James began the second round of his NBA championship quest. After months of spectacular feats from LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Dwayne Wade, it was James who came out ahead for his first NBA MVP award this afternoon.

The Associated Press reported that LeBron James will accept his MVP award at his old high school, Akron St-Vincent-St Mary High School. Since he came from high school to the NBA, James has been the "Chosen One" and "The King" - though some are probably shocked it took him this long to be an MVP, given his massive hype.

This year, James averaged 28 points and 7 rebounds and assists, improved his shooting and defense, took the Cavaliers to the best record in the NBA, and is now favored to win his first NBA championship as well. In addition, James was credited for helping his often-derided supporting cast rise to new levels this season.

The Cavaliers will begin the second round of the playoffs against the Atlanta Hawks tomorrow night, where James will likely be honored in front of his fans before the game.

The home crowd has witnessed much of James' heights this season, since the Cavaliers have only lost twice at Cleveland this season. That home-court advantage has made many believe that James will break through to be an NBA champion this year.

Even in this latest spectacular year from LeBron James, the MVP award wasn't completely a sure thing. Defending MVP Kobe Bryant achieved his usual legendary feats, while Dwayne Wade almost singlehandedly led the Miami Heat back to the playoffs.

James and Wade could have squared off in the playoffs, but the Heat lost Game 7 to the Hawks yesterday. Everyone is waiting and hoping for a LeBron-Kobe matchup later on down the road in June.

In six years, James has turned into the dominant force everyone expected him to be. But lingering questions will not be settled until he wins it all, which will be determined in the next month. Cleveland is even more of a favorite to get to the Finals, at the least, after the struggles of the Celtics and Magic in round 1, and after the Cavs easily swept the Pistons.

For the rest of the NBA, the struggle to stop LeBron James continues - while certain teams, particularly the Knicks, continue to work towards taking him for themselves after he becomes a free agent in 2010.

He probably deserved it last year, but he was amazing this year for sure.
