LeBron James: Redemption for the King

max luna
On May 29, the Orlando Magic defeated the Cleveland Cavilers, and LeBron James walked off the court without a head nod, handshake, or friendly glance toward Dwight Howard or any of the Orlando Magic.

I recently read an article bashing LeBron by Adrian Wojnarowski on yahoo sports. He said LeBron "embarrassed himself " and that (what i got from it) nobody is man enough to tell him, because they are all scared. LeBron James was quoted as saying "If somebody beats you up, you're not going to congratulate them...It doesn't make sense for me to go over and shake somebody's hand." . Now i know as a professional sports player they want you to act "professional", but they are also asking the best basketball players in the world to be the most competitive and passionate basketball players they can be. I don't understand how any one can get mad, or feel like a player is being immature, for pouring their every being out onto the court and coming up short, and then god forsake, showing it. These same reporters and journalists who are passionately writing their opinions on LeBron's actions in a critical and harsh way, expect a person to hold in emotions and act in a friendly way after coming off of a war ground.

It must not be apparent that all sports are very mental, you are going to war, literally stepping onto a fight. Now i don't personally know LeBron James, But i can guess that LeBron James probably knew he would be talking to Dwight later, and i can also guess that Dwight Probably knew how LeBron felt, and didn't feel disrespected. All these comparison to all these greats shaking hands after losses, and how LeBron failed to be like them, well everything is situational. If you take it as is, then ya he didn't show the same sportsmanship as those other players who stayed and shook hands after their loss, but those players didn't take possibly one of the worst teams in the NBA to the NBA finals only to get swept, then have the best record in the NBA the next season with roughly the same team, only to lose in convincing fashion, one step away from the finals.

I feel as a sports fan, writer, analysis, commissioner, coach, etc... we must understand that we require every fabric of these athletes to be left on the court, for: entertainment, money, something to write about, or whatever our reasons may be. We can't possibly think we are right for making a person feel like they are less of a man for merely wanting to go home and think after a loss. LeBron James wrote an email to Dwight Howard so all should be forgotten. i think we are immature for writing about a person's actions without knowing what the person was actually thinking and with something more than a couple of quotes. Its not like he jumped into the Orlando crowd and started knocking people out. LeBron James fought his heart out and got shut down, he's human and you don't have to condone what he did, but at least try to understand, and instead of condemning him maybe thank him for giving you something to write about, or watch every season.
