LeBron James Will He Stay or Go?

Cleveland, New York, and Chicago Look to Make Run at NBA Superstar

Mike Spain
LeBron James is an NBA superstar. LeBron is among the top players in the league. James is often compared to Michael Jordon and mentioned in the same breath as Kobe Bryant. The main thing which separates LeBron from Jordan and Bryant is championship rings. Cleveland's playoff failure has fans wondering if the Cavaliers will ever win a championship and if LeBron James days with Cleveland are about to end.

The Cleveland Cavaliers latest Playoff Struggles

LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers lost to the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Semi Finals four games to two. According to Yahoo Sports the Cavs have been to the playoffs five straight seasons with LeBron James. Cleveland did make it to the NBA Finals in 2007 but were swept in four games by the San Antonio Spurs. Last seasons the Cavs cruised to the conference finals before falling to the Orlando Magic. In the other playoffs series the Cavs lost in the second round. Cleveland has never won an NBA Championship.

LeBron James is the free agent prize

According to an AP article appearing on Fox Sports "the two-time MVP will be the most-coveted prize when the NBA's free agency period starts." LeBron James was the first overall pick in the NBA Draft in 2003. He has averaged over 20 points a game a season in his seven years with Cleveland. In two seasons he averaged over 30 points. This season he averaged 29.7 points per game and has averaged 27.8 per game for his career. He ranks third on the All-Time Playoff scoring list by average per game.

Reasons LeBron James May Stay in Cleveland

Cleveland "can offer more money to LeBron than any other team" according to a Bleacher Report article. James knows what he has with the Cavaliers. LeBron James likes Cleveland having grown up in nearby Akron. The Cavs may bring in a new general manager, coach, or free agent to help LeBron James in his quest to win an NBA Championship. LeBron James would show loyalty to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Other Teams interested

Almost every team in the NBA would love to add LeBron James to their NBA roster. However, most people believe LeBron James would leave for the best team to give him a chance at the NBA title. According to New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg was quoted by Fox Sports stating "rumors are that both the Knicks and the Nets would like to get him." The stage does not get any bigger than New York City. He could go down as the player who brought the Knicks their first Championship since 1973.

LeBron James could work a story line with the Nets as well. The questions remain if those teams have the pieces to lure LeBron. Chicago is a very appealing location as well. James wears 23 for a reason and would have to switch numbers for that reason. The Bulls have supporting players such as Rose and Noah to help LeBron with the load. Chicago offers a big stage. The Bulls could make moves to add more support. Chad Ford reported "three NBA GMs via text, e-mail and phone" stated "they believe LeBron will leave the Cavs." Ford continued to report "all of them said they believe the destination will be the Chicago Bulls." Certainly other scenarios will pop up as well to be considered. However, Cleveland, New York and Chicago are the early contenders.

I certainly hope Lebron decides to go to the Bulls. He will then have a supporting cast that could possibly assist in getting him the ring that he most certainly deserves. It's not always about the money. Lebron is one of the few players that LOVE the game and although I'm sure he comes at a hefty price, his heart is most definitely in the game.

I think the whole city of Cleveland is holding their breath on this one Mike. I am not a Cav's fan, but I am staying tuned for this King James news. Nice reporting.

LeBron's extra money mostly comes in an additional year on the contract. Per season, Cleveland can only offer a little over $1 million more. Also Cleveland can't bring any free agents unless they are MLEs or BAEs and they haven't been successful with that before. The only chance to better the roster is through lopsided trades (Cavs lack any desirable assets with a possible exception to Hickson)
