Lebron Vs. Jordan

Will Lebron James Ever Be Able to Match Jordan's Greatness?

Mr. Burgundy
Since His Airness laid down the basketball shoes, there have been several "next Michael Jordans". First, there was fellow North Carolina Tarheel Jerry Stackhouse. Suffice to say, Stackhouse never came close to emulating Jordan's greatness. Then along came Kobe Bryant. As far as talent and style of play goes, Bryant has come close to matching Jordan on the court (scoring 81 last year certainly helped his cause), but his flair for the game still does not compare to Jordan's. He has also been far less classy, not nearly the ambassador for the game that MJ was. In addition, Jordan still has a lot more championship rings than Bryant.

But now we have the great LeBron. And I don't use great lightly; King James is quickly proving himself to be one of the greatest to play the game, ever. The stats he has posted so far in his career are better than anyone his age, ever. But, will he ever be as good as Michael Jordan was?

Personally, I feel it is unlikely, but he definitely has a better shot than any other basketball player alive. LeBron has already shown an ability to take over games almost single handedly, one of Jordan's trademarks. However, the big difference is that he hasn't done it in the playoffs the way Jordan did year after year. To be fair, LeBron hasn't had much opportunity yet, as his team has steadily improved but he still hasn't played on a real contender.

Jordan had Scottie Pippen, one of the NBA's 50 Greatest Players, on the court with him throughout most of his career. Without Pippen, it's doubtful that Jordan would have earned six NBA championships. Lebron will need his own wingman, another great player on his team that can take some of the opposing defense's focus off him and free him up to play to his potential. As great as he is, Lebron will need some help to earn the same sort of recognition and respect that Jordan did.

In the end, we'll have to look at LeBron's career stats and his overall impact on the game. He will definitely have to win a ring or two to even be considered remotely close to Jordan. The bottom line is: the greatest players in basketball have always found a way to become champions. More than almost any other sport, basketball can be dominated by one player on a team, and this gives LeBron a chance to make his case as the best player ever.

im not a lebron fan or jordan fan but here is 2 reason why lebron will never be as good as michael. #1 lebron's defense is nowheres near as comparable as jordans. look at the stats and compare both stats in their 1st seven yrs. not even close....#2 lebron isnt a go to game closing guy (heck even Kobe has him beat there, lol) Michael was closing games at the last second even in college, not to mention his whole NBA career. go look at youtube and compare. lebron will be ONE of the greats but until he betters his defense and shows he can be a last second game winner then he can score all the points in the world but he will never be better than Jordan.

Do you even know what you mean when you say "he has to see the NBA as a symbol and not just a game"? It is a game! One that Lebron is dominating. You discredited yourself by saying that Jordan will always be the best of all time, because your saying that no matter what lebron does, you will be too stubborn to see his accomplishments. I dont care if Lebron disrespects the game and doesnt see it as a symbol (whatever that means), If he continues on the path hes going, hes gonna take over the number 1 spot.

I think that LeBron is Awesome and probably the best player at the current time...Kobe is good, but has probably reach and passed his prime. LeBron has a lot to learn about basketball and the NBA as a symbol. Jordan will always be the best of all time, even when Jordan was past his prime he came back to play for the Wizards for the love of the game and teams still double teamed him. Jordan had a supporting cast, but I believe that in Jordan's prime you could put him with any 4 Chicago high schoolers or street ballers and he could have still won basketball games in the NBA. LeBron needs to see the NBA as a symbol not just a game, Jordan took the NBA world wide and created the world interest in basketball, Jordan will always be the best player of all time.

everyone is so quick to forget that jordan had phil jackson (greatest coach ever) along with pippen to help his career. comparing lebrons stats to jordan now is amazing seeing as though he was straight out of high school with a nobody coach. no disrespect to mike brown but come on. put james on the lakers in kobes place. now put james w jackson in lebrons prime. lets imagine what people would say. remember james is only 24. wait until hes 28,29

Scott, you're a dumbass. No one complains more than the team playing LeBron 'cause they have no explanation for the amazing plays he does every time down the court, on either side. So suck my dick.

Micheal is still the champ and will always be

I think that Lebron can do it! He is an amazing basketball player! He is helping the Cavs a lot through out the basketball season and their playoff season!

With his whining/skill ratio, he's looking more like Iverson than Jordan.
