LED Light Bulbs Promise Higher Efficiency, Longer Life

John Ehle
Not much has changed until recently when it comes to the ordinary household light bulb, still the basic design used since invented by Thomas Edison over 130 years ago. Fluorescent light bulbs have gained popularity due to the energy sipping and longer lasting design. Although pricier than a regular incandescent light bulb, fluorescent bulbs have a excellent track record when it comes to delivering what they promise

Some controversy has sprung up in regards to just how safe fluorescent bulbs can be. Some experts will say that the gas contained in fluorescent light bulbs can be hazardous to humans and animals. This can be especially distressing if a bulb happened to break inside your home and the mess is not cleaned up or disposed of properly.

Now here comes the newer and widely available higher efficiency LED light bulb. LED lights can be found almost anywhere in the home, from the power light on your TV to your coffee maker. The biggest reasons that electronics manufacturers have utilized LEDs are because of their low energy consumption, life expectancy and size.

People have often complained that fluorescent light bulbs create a stale atmosphere and lack of warmth with the illumination they provide. LED lights seem to have a little more in common with the natural lighting effect an incandescent bulb can provide.

The energy savings from using LED light bulbs in your home can greatly exceed that of fluorescent and especially incandescent light bulbs. LEDs do not produce any heat; they are compact as well as extremely durable.

So far, LED lighting is the only true green lighting alternative. The possible harmful chemicals and materials used in fluorescent bulbs far outweigh any energy savings gained in my opinion. LED light bulbs are typically more expensive then it's predecessors but offers you great potential with respect to getting a handle on your energy consumption and waste. In time, you will be more than able to justify the initial investment on buying LED light bulbs as well as any other green alternatives by keeping more money at the end of the month when the bills are due.

Going green isn't just a great way to live for the sake of the environment. Going green is also a way to live by, spending your money where it will count in the long run.
