Led Zeppelin Reunion Concert

Gordon
They're back. Kind of. The band that brought us the classics Kashmir, the Immigrant Song and Stairway to Heaven have gotten back together. The screaming guitar of Jimmy Page and the wailing of Robert Plant will echo through London's O2 Arena on December 10, 2007. That's right, Led Zeppelin is back. The reunion concert was originally planned to be on November 26 but was pushed back due to guitarist Jimmy Page fracturing his finger.

Three of the original four members, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones, are back together. The fourth, John Bonham, died in 1980. His unfortunate death brought about the break up of the legendary group. The band, formed in 1968 started as the New Yardbirds but changed their name to Led Zeppelin a short time later. Zeppelin had a huge following from the very beginning, they released their self titled first album in January 1969, it had taken them only about 30 hours to make. Throughout the 1970's Led Zeppelin was one of the most popular and influential bands in the world both live and with the sale of their albums. The evidence of their popularity is shown by fact that they have sold more than 300 million albums worldwide.

The fourth member, and drummer, for the "new" Led Zeppelin is none other than Jason Bonham, John Bonham's son. The younger Bonham has been playing the drums since the age of 4. At that early age he was playing Zeppelin songs with his father. He went on to play with the likes of Jimmy Page, Slash (from Guns and Roses), Paul Rogers (Bad Company) and Foreigner.

Since Led Zeppelin broke up in 1980 the other members of the band have been busy also. Jimmy Page joined with Paul Rogers to form the band The Firm. They released two albums in the mid-1980's. Since 1990 Page has been involved in remastering all of the Led Zeppelin material. Robert Plant has put out a series of solo albums since the break up. He also put out three albums in which he played with Jimmy Page. Their most popular collaboration, No Quarter: Jimmy Page and Robert Plant Unledded, was made in 1994 for MTV . In October of 2007 Plant released the album Raising Sand, in which he collaborated with Alison Krause. Since 1980 John Paul Jones has also put out solo albums. He also has collaborated on albums with the Foo Fighters, R.E.M., Heart and others. Jones has also recently gotten into producing albums.

More than a million fans entered for a chance to buy one of the 10,000 tickets available for the show. The concert is a tribute to Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun, who died last year. Also playing at the concert is former Rolling Stone Bill Wyman and Foreigner. Tickets for the canceled November 26 concert will be honored at the rescheduled December 10th show, according to the concert organizers.

Great article. Although I am a huge Zeppelin fan I must admit that when I went to the Page/Plant concert back in the mid 90's it was awful. I was so disappointed. I hope that this one is better.
