American Idol Mentor: Advice from Jamie Foxx to Lee DeWyze
Jamie Foxx is a singer, actor and stand-up comedian. He should easily put the contestants at ease when they work with him. He won an Academy Award for the film Ray and a two Grammy awards. His first Grammy was in 2006 for being the Favorite Male R&B Artist. With Jamie Foxx's extensive career combining film and song this week's "Songs from the Movies" theme fits him perfectly.
During rehearsal, Jamie Foxx got close to Lee's face and just stared at him. He did that because he wanted to see if Lee could tolerate and not laugh. He knew if Lee could continue to perform then he was ready to perform in front of thousands of fans.
Jamie Foxx brought in t-shirts that either said 'artist' or 'contestant' on them. He gave each contestant a shirt depending on how their rehearsal went. Lee got an 'artist' shirt.
Lee DeWyze's "Kiss from a Rose" Performance
Once again Lee performed with his guitar. He looked like an ordinary guy in jeans and sounded pretty ordinary also. Lee actually looked sheepish during parts of his song but then the next phrase he looked confident again.
"Kiss from a Rose" is a difficult song to sing and Lee sang it well, but his performance just didn't have much spark. I love Lee's voice, but I didn't feel any emotion in this song.
What the Judges said about Lee DeWyze's "Kiss from a Rose" Performance
Randy Jackson: Randy agreed with Jamie Fox when he said that he was looking for who was in this to take it. Randy thought that Lee's performance was just okay and was a little pitchy in some spots.
Ellen DeGeneres: Thought that Lee could have done more with the song.
Kara DioGuardi: Said that Lee had a great week last week but it is a difficult song. He got lost a little with the ups and downs of the song. Kara added that you can't take away the fact that he is still great.
Simon Cowell: Simon agreed with Randy because there are so many brilliant movies and brilliant songs, but Lee's version was verging on karaoke. Simon would have given him a 'contestant' t-shirt.
I have been a fan of Lee DeWyze from the beginning, but he may have needed to do more this week on American Idol. I didn't love this performance, but I think he will be in the final three.

I love Lee, I think he will win, great read very well done!!
Nicely done, Kim :) cheers !
Haven't watched Idol in a good while. Maybe I ought to start again...
I just hope he didn't blow it last night.
I thought Lee's performance was stellar. Of course, like Crystal, I have a musical crush on him, so maybe I'm tone deaf when he performs.
