Lee Jeans and Christina Applegate Team Up to Promote National Denim Day

Breast Cancer Awareness

Vicki Messer
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We have become so familiar with this topic and the month that is set aside to fund all kinds of activities to "race for the cure". Nearly every city across the country will host a special event in order to focus on the health issues and to help raise money to aid medical science in finding a cure for this dreadful affliction.

National Denim Day
Beginning in 1996, Lee Jeans first proclaimed National Denim Day with one simple philosophy: "One day, one cause, one cure". After thirteen years, this one day, National Denim Day, has become one of the largest single-day fundraisers in the country. This year, October 2nd is being proclaimed as " National Denim Day".

We are all familiar with Lee Jeans. They make fantastic jeans for all sizes, shapes and ages, and now, spokesperson, Christina Applegate and Lee Jeans have teamed up to sponsor National Denim Day.

Christina Applegate
Christina Applegate, star of "Samantha Who?" is a survivor of breast cancer. Following a double mastectomy, Christina is now cancer free. Christina opted to have both breasts removed even though she had cancer in only one breast. Her decision was based on a family history of breast cancer and it seemed the logical way to deal with the problem. Christina rode the emotional roller coaster that all breast cancer victims ride, yet through it all she managed to keep her sense of humor intact. She is a survivor in every sense of the word.

In Her Own Words
Christina Applegate sums it all up by saying, "I love living, and I really love my life, and I knew that from this moment on it was only going to be good that was going to be coming. Yeah, I'll face challenges, but you can't get any darker than where I've been. So knowing that in my soul gave me the strength to just say, `I have to get out there and make this a positive." This makes her the perfect person to work alongside Lee Jeans as they promote National Denim Day.

Since Lee Jeans first began their Denim Day, they have raised more than $75 million and has brought together nearly one million supporters to fight this battle against breast cancer.
