Legalizing marijuana is a long discussed and quite thorny subject. With individuals voicing their concern for one reason or another, it is easy to see that the discussion of legalizing marijuana has set the nation on fire with a discussion that is rarely broached outside of private conversations.

With Pres. Obama tackling the subject of legalizing marijuana head on, it is easy to see that the chances of marijuana becoming legalized nationwide are greater now than they ever have been before. The reasons for keeping marijuana criminalized are few, and generally highly politicized. With the political slant that these types of discussions generally engender, it is easy to see that a true discussion that strips away the irrelevant political machinations on legalizing marijuana is difficult to come by. Regardless, the current administration has made it their purpose in life to legalize marijuana and ensure that the American people have a chance to utilize this cash crop to assist in the economic recovery of the United States as well as the world.

Regardless of what side of the argument that you might represent, it is easy to see that there are many millions of dollars spent on marijuana on a regular basis. By taking advantage of the tremendous amounts of money that changes hands on a regular basis, the American economy can benefit greatly from this boost in productivity as well as the money that changes hands.

By legalizing and taxing marijuana sales, Obama hopes to make the most of a bad situation by bringing to the forefront a product that is considered harmless by most users. Naturally, there are some vocal opponents of these types of policies. Fortunately, despite the opposition, the dialogue and discussion of legalizing marijuana has been brought out into the open where it can be poked and prodded until some type of consensus can be reached.

It is easy to see that there is a diminished economic benefit from the legalization of marijuana. Whether it has a negative effect on the social situation of users in the United States remains to be seen and is still a matter of some heated discussion amongst politicians and pundits alike.

Until some type of compromise can be reached, it is likely that this particular conversation will remain exactly that: a conversation. Naturally, everyone wants to see the matter come to a resolution in order to effectively eliminate the tremendous downturn in the economy. Whether are not the benefit to the American economy is as great as that which has been illustrated, the fight to legalize marijuana will continue to rage on, fueled by those who believe quite strongly in one side or the other of the ongoing argument.
