Legally Blonde the Musical Makes Debut in Detroit

Thursday, October 15 marks the debut of Legally Blonde the Musical at Detroit's Fisher Theatre.

The musical is based on the popular 2001 movie starring Reese Witherspoon. When her character sorority star Elle Woods is dumped by her boyfriend for someone more serious, Elle decides to set out and prove she is worthy by getting into the Harvard Law School. Along the way, Elle proves that being true to yourself never goes out of style.

In its first year on Broadway, Legally Blonde the Musical earned seven 2007 Tony Award nominations, ten 2007 Drama Desk Award Nominations, a 2007 Outer Critics Circle Award and the chorus of the musical was honored by Actors' Equity Association's Advisory Committee on Chorus Affairs (ACCA) with the first ever ACCA Award. The musical also ranked in the top ten list of the most requested Ticketmaster "Arts & Theatre Events" for 2007.

In an unprecedented partnership, on October 13, 2007, MTV premiered the musical in its entirety and reached over 12.5 million viewers.

Following the success of Legally Blonde the Musical, MTV once again joined forces with the production to search for a talented singer/actress/dancer to take over the role of Elle Woods from the Tony Nominated star who originated the role, Laura Bell Bundy. The winner of the show, Bailey Hanks took over the role in July 2007.

The Detroit production of the show will run from October 15 through November 1 with tickets for the run going on sale on Friday, August 28. Tickets will be available at the Fisher Theatre box office and all Ticketmaster outlets.

Tickets for the Detroit shows will range from $30-$80. These prices will reflect parking and facility fees.

Tuesday through Saturday performances will begin at 8:00 p.m.. Thursday and Sunday matinee performances will begin at 1:00 p.m and Saturday's matinee performances will begin at 2:00 p.m.. Sunday's evening performances will begin at 6:30 p.m.. However, there will be no evening performances on October 18 and November 1.

Legally Blonde the Musical is produced by Hal Luftig, Fox Theatricals and Dori Berinstein, in association with MGM Onstage, Darcie Denkert and Dean Stolber.

The Fisher Theatre is located at 3011 W. Grand Boulevard in downtown Detroit.
