Legendary Frontman Steve Perry Will Not Be Reuniting with Journey

Jason Freeden
Journey underwent a few changes in their band lineup over the years, but recently they have let go of their so called "permanent" lead singer Jeff Scott Soto. While this was a decision made by the band, Johnathon Cain had stated that he wanted the old Journey sound back. Quickly, I'd like to bring it to everyone's attention that Soto is not in any way, shape or form upset at the band for dismissing him from the band. Jeff stated that he was looking forward to a long and successful future with Journey, but unfortunately his chapter with this legendary band ended.

The internet is a very "talkative" place, so it obviously wouldn't be out of the question to find websites rumoring Steve Perry's return to Journey. After all, it would be one heck of a money maker and the band would virtually be back to their old selves again. After the Sopranos shocking season finale, Journey's popular hit "Don't Stop Believin'" has sky rocketed to the top of many charts, including the Rock charts on iTunes. Firing Jeff Scott Soto, being very well known once again, has to mean something, doesn't it?

Since this quote has been released by Johnathon Cain, "We wish Jeff the best of luck, we just wanted to move in a different direction sonically. We're interested in our legacy right now. We want to sound like our old records and we want to sound like the 65 million units that are out there", the rumors of Steve Perry's return have been off the chart. I have been introduced by plenty of interesting, yet extremely funny theories stating Perry's reuniting with the band, but in all fairness, good things must come to an end. I can see Cain's displeasure with the way Jeff Scott Soto sang Journey's songs, he sounded nothing like Perry.

Unfortunately, I was browsing the internet and I happened to come across Perry's temporary website. While this might come as a bit of a shock for some people, it wasn't ever official that Steve Perry even though about returning to his legendary place in rock history. Here is the message he posted out to the entire world.

Hello everyone. This is Steve Perry. As you are aware I have yet to launch my own web site and Fan Asylum is still the only credible site for official statements from me. Once again they have kindly allowed me to post this statement. It has been brought to my attention that there is a rumor circulating that I am reuniting with Journey. I want to go on record as saying that I have no such plans whatsoever to do that. What you have heard is only a rumor. I'm truly sorry for any disappointment this rumor may be causing. I also would like to say that your faithfulness continues to warm my heart.

Thank you so very much,

Steve Perry

As of right now, the rumors are now crushed officially. While there is still no lead singer for Journey, they are working on it. What could they be working on though? Is Steve Perry just busting everyone's chops? It doesn't seem likely, but anything is possible. After all, Steve Perry did state numerous times "never say never", so people's hopes are completely crushed, just now it's inevitable.

Until we see the official statement on Journey's website, we will never know. There are also rumors spreading around that a sound-a-like Perry is also in the mix, but again, they are JUST RUMORS. There is nothing anyone can do to know what Journey is up to. One thing I can guarantee, they will be back. The whole band wants to continue their legacy, and boy is it very large right now. Just imagine a tour right now, it would literally be pandemonium everywhere. Don't Stop Believin' in Journey, they will be back before you know, but with who as their lead singer?

After reading some of the rest of the comments I gotta say the Statement Steve Perry is Journey couldn't be truer! AND "the band is more replaceable then Steve" Without Steve Perry its a fake band. Nike needs to get over himself it was never about him!

Journey without Steve Perry is a joke. I would never go see a band with a good karaoke lead singer, not at least paying for it. I do however think the original band members should kiss and make up. Whatever is personally causing this rift can be resolved. They always say everything they do is for the fans, well if that was really true Journey would do one more tour with STEVE PERRY before they move into the retirement home. Arnell is a good singer hes just not the singer I grew up hearing when I related to these songs in my teens. Journey without Steve Perry is like Peanut Butter without the jelly, its almost as good but not exactly a good. Love Steve Perry! My favorite singer of all time!

I think Steve Perry is a rear precious talent. Nobody can take his place in Journey and even if he does a solo project, his voice is a gift from GOD. I wish he would continue his gift and talents to fulfill his life, love and health to his greatest potential.

I am sorry, I want the REAL THING !!! I dont really care if his voice isnt as it once was. It is the heart and soul that I'm after when it comes to music. Anyone can belt out a song but when it is YOUR song, you own it.

It is hard to move on, Does Steve Perry have any clue that he truly indeed was the "Best", I miss him and yearn to see Journey Reunite, and will continue to hope that they will come to their senses, Not about Money, Its about the beauty of his voice with Journey music....

To Laurie: You're right. If you are a ~Journey~ fan, you will move on. Surely Perry is an amazing singer, but Journey and him have parted and atfer speculations of him returning and what-not, it is just not meant to be. Arnel is amazing and he can really belt out the tunes like it's nothing- he is also about 20 years young than Perry so that also makes a large different as well. Look forward to a write-up on Arnel and Journey coming soon!

I will buy the Revelation CD, I heard samples of it and although Steve Perry will always be remembered as Journey front man, for me it is time to move on and stop not listening to a really great band!! The new frontman for Journey is sure to please the fans! His voice is incredible and sounds so much like Perry its unbelievable, in fast I had to see who the singer was because I knew from looking and reading on Perry's website that he is never going to return but it sounded like him. This is exciting and I am loving the new CD. Please don't send me hate comments because while I love Steve Perry, I love Journey and thier style, this new CD definitely encompasses JOURNEY.
