Each participant paid $150 to take part in the police escorted ride. The ride took them from Deadwood to the Buffalo Chip Campground. At the commence of the ride they were treated to a catered dinner, witnessed the 9th Annual Motorcycles as Art display by Michael Lichter, and listened to a concert given by Lita Ford and Toby Keith.
The event raised in excess of $61,000 for the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame as well as the Black Hills Children's Home.
Paul Mitchell hair products owner and spokesman, John Paul DeJoria, donated $10,000 as well as a 1938 Indian that he and his wife rode.
Steven Tyler, of Aerosmith, arrived as well in support of the Dirico Motorcycles and to hold a concert at the Buffalo Chip. At 61 years old he is still rockin' and dancing with the microphone stand. However, this time, the sound system failed during "Love in an Elevator" and then he fell off of the stage. The concert had to be cut short because they were taking Tyler to the hospital. Mike Sanborn, a spokesman for the Buffalo Chip Campground, stated that he suffered minor head, neck and shoulder injuries.
